Hi All,

I hope to do the SCWCD (310-081). But no any idea about recommended books.

Does Head First cover all exam objectives of SCWCD?

Thanks,

Chami

There are a number of books available for this exam. I am giving you there details

1) Head First JSP and Servlets
2) SCWCD Exam Study kit by HanumantDeshmukh,Jignesh Malavia (Manning Publications)
3) Professional SCWCD Certification by Daniel Jepp,Sam Dalton(Wrox publication)

The most popular is the Ist one (Head First JSP and Servlets). Even I am using it for SCWCD preparation.

Thanks & Regards

I believe the Wrox book is actually for the old exam (310-080, SCWCD 1.3)?

However, there is one book (albeit not yet released) which you forgot to mention (see my signature)

Have fun with your preparations!

Almost, except Dynamic Attributes.
You'll find a tutorial here :

PS: I've added it at the bottom of the FAQ:

Dear Charles Lyons

I'm Sri Lankan. How can I buy you book and when. Usualy all publishers publish an indian virsion because the US or UK price is very high. Do you have any idea to publish an indian edition with original edition? What is the price of the book

Hi Charles,

Are you planning for any Indian edition of your book ? The Indian editions are economical for us.

Thanks

Thanks to everyone for the interest and questions.

Are you planning for any Indian edition of your book ? The Indian editions are economical for us.

The problem is distribution: since this is being published in and distributed from the UK, this means that all deliveries will incur international shipping rates. I'm already prepared to offer free delivery (at least as promotion for the first few months) which is a large chunk of the overall cost, but we cannot afford to offer too much more than that without running at a loss. This is made worse by the constant decline in the sales of computer texts. If I could find a cheaper or more efficient way to sell the book, believe me I would! An eBook version would be ideal, bringing costs right down for everyone, but I'm afraid I see too much piracy around (including some on this very forum) which prevents that option from being viable.

The UK retail price is 34.99 (GBP) - this may vary slightly depending on which currency you purchase in because of exchange rates. I will try to make sure that fluctuating rates are taken into account to make the prices fair however. This isn't really high considering you're getting 640 pages of text, including 300+ exam-style questions, manageable chapter sizes, one free online mock exam simulation subscription and a couple of additional chapters on Java EE 5 material (which isn't in the exam). Also there are various chapters of the book which make excellent reference material (I use them all the time) and so I hope this would be an investment over time, and not just a purchase in preparation for the exam.

Clearly if there is great demand for the title, a much larger second run could be made, which would bring all the costs down to a level at which further discounts could be offered. At the moment I'm just concerned about depleting the first run!

Temporary promotions may also run in order to bring the price down slightly over short periods. I will hopefully be running a giveaway promotion on this forum in late June/early July so if you're interested in a free copy, watch this space!

Dear Charles Lyons,

Thanks for the reply...

If your realy want do something for the community, It is better give the free book to 3rd world countries...

Keep in mind, I'm first person asked for the Indian Visrion.

(As I'm a sri lankan, It will take over one month time to come to sri lanka market after the indian print.)
