Hi all,
I need urgent help regarding scwcd exam preparation.
I have some experience with jsp, servlets,
but no experience with EL,Custom tags and other topics for scwcd,
Whenever i try to read regarding EL and custom tags i feel boring and sleepy as i donthave experience with that.,
I have been thinkin of giving scwcd exam from past 5 months but could not give..

Can anybody help me with some good book that teaches Customs tags and other such topics ,but other than HFSJ as i already have it..

Also can anybody tell me what target time ishould be aiming for giving exam..bcos not targetting a particular time-frame i am not able to read/learn and give the exam.

Please tell me withknowledge of jsp/servlets how should i approach the scwcd exam

Hello, welcome to the 'Ranch...

Can anybody help me with some good book that teaches Customs tags and other such topics ,but other than HFSJ as i already have it..

My book gives particular bias to the subjects of EL and custom tags because these are typically found to be the hardest bits on the exam, and often the topics which candidates have little (or no) experience with. However, you'd have to wait about a month until it's released (you can subscribe to the mailing list, see my signature), so I don't know how this fits into your time frame...

Please tell me withknowledge of jsp/servlets how should i approach the scwcd exam.

Well ideally in order to pass the exam you should be proficient at developing real life applications with J2EE Web technology - after all, that's the point of the exam. However, you can get away with doing no practical work what-so-ever as long as you do the book-work (which is the let-down of the exam in my opinion). My advice is do lots of practise; it took me a good year or more to become a proficient J2EE Web developer, and I'm still learning tiny new things day-by-day!

Hi charles,

i cant wait till your book release, but i m thankful to your reply,

for my experience is concerned i am having about 2.5 years experience working with jsp and servlets.
but i have been using only scriptlets in jsp .
i have used jstl only for a month professionaly and not there after.
Can u please tell me how should i approach the exam.

I can't tell you that, as the approach which works varies from candidate to candidate. But since you already seem to have lots of experience with the basics, that's probably enough to get you started on nearly every topic in the exam... I recommend looking through the exam objectives and seeing what you think you don't know; then find some tutorials (or even whole books) on just those topics. Make sure you spend a while (a month or so) getting to know them intimately by doing lots of apps using those technologies, and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Oh, and do some mock exams so you're used to the exam format and the style of questions!

Another good book is:

SCWCD Exam Study Kit: Java Web Component Development Certification
Hanumant Deshmukh

ISBN: 1932394389

I found it very useful to pass the exam - and I had no previous experience of EL and custom tag libraries.

ciao,

R
