hurray,,, thanks ranchers, thanks all, thanks Frederic esnault, thanks MZ, thanks miftak khan, thanks K&B, thanks Purav Gandhi for giving me the voucher, thanks rutvij for motivation me to post-pone the exam for a week and get more percentage.. thanks god
Will post about the time studied for the exam, techniques and other things later, right now party,, where's the party tonight
i have about 2.5 years of exp in java and jspservlets, although we dont use jsp servlets and details indepth, so had problems while learning el and custom tags.
Sun has made the learning curve for jsp/servlets el/customtags/tag files so big that i think this will be the start of end of j2ee purely for time required to learn allthose details..
i had read HFSJ once in last november ..there after due to project and work pressure i left studying for scwcd. thereafter again i started reading from 1st of june and read hfsj twice then gave lots of mock exam from javaranch and others . was scoring 78% from last 5 mock exam. I scored only 65% in HFSJ .
Although HFSJ helped me a lot in preparing for scwcd i had many complains for it.
i used Frederic esnault and MZ and others notes for final reading. Although i hate to make notes myself so had not made any.but those areas which you fail regularly needs notes...
I was surprised by the content of the exam...mostof the questions were from web.xml/el/custom tags.. i scored 100% in 5 sections including design pattersn..
Although eveyrbody in the forum say hfsj is enough to pass the exam..and stuff..but i was in big tension due to final mock exam of hfsj.
in real exam i was asked a question on (variable-name)exported by custom tag which is not covered in hfsj.
Regarding design patterns only those covered in hfsj are important..if you see other design patterns as option ..just discard them..they are distractors..
download the web.xml help pepared by frederic esnault which will make u give atleast 10-15 correct answers..
I agree with your views related to the HFSJ book. Can be improved definitely. In terms of content and presentation both...
I dont think the book "Sun Certified Web Component Developer Study Companion, J2EE 1.4 (exam 310-081)" by Charles Lyons is available in India as of now?
Did you read the Servlet SPECS as well? And the part related to Coercion in EL?

hi all, thanks shivani, narenra, owen and others for wishing.. no i deed not read the real specs..but i did read the servlet spec summary prepared by frederic esnault. they are really good.
i wanted an industry recognition so gave scwcd ....
by the way dont even think of buying any other book ... HFSJ is the only book i would prefer for scwcd. ofcourse i would say read my other post regarding this not covered in hfsj and give exam.. but just for 2-3 things not covered i would suggest not to ditch HFSJ
The best thing for preparation is give mock exams and then improve mistakes.
how to take appintment in sylvan prometric center ...do we have to pay any fees for prometric center other than carrying voucher. I have voucher .. on 2test.com website for booking center they are asking $200. I am resident of USA would like to take exam on sunday 07/30/2006.
From the previous replies I am clear about which book to use ie HFJS.But can I continue my journey to certification only with this book and the notes you have specified?

hi all. congrats for the wishes. ofcourse hfsj is all you want to "pass" the exam. its a wonderful book. also give maximum mock exams available online. many of have false language in questions or wrong answers.. so dont base your learning on the answers of mock exam. always check for api's or online tutorial and do a google search for that question most of your queries would have been answered here in this forum or somewhere else.
Wow!! 92.75%! Thats truly an achievement. I'm inspired.
