Hi Charles. I'm about halfway through your book and I hope to finish and get my review submitted in the next day or two. So far so good!

Thank you for the welcome... I've just spent 2 hours playing catch-up, replying to all your questions so far, but please keep them coming. Happy studying!

Oh, and thanks to Sankarsan for the kind words - I assume you've bought a copy of the book, so would you mind me asking where you bought it and, perhaps more importantly, where you found out about it in the first place? Also, if you've got any other feedback, it's more than welcome... my e-mail address can be found on the About the Author page. By the way, welcome to the Ranch!

I think I should win the book, not because of my stunning good looks and witty charm, but because I failed the SCWCD exam on monday...by one question, that very one question was something I changed during my review of the questions...the only question I changed. I did not intend to change anything, but rather to make sure I had filled out all the required checkboxes. I felt absolutely disgusted with myself...still maybe next time I will be more prepared and wont have to worry about barely scraping through.

Is the book available in Amazon US
Unfortunately not: there is a distribution problem in the USA, where Amazon.com won't accept books on their catalogue without a regional office or distributor there... however by the end of the week the ordering facilities on the website should be configured and you would receive free international delivery. I hope that's an amicable compromise.
Can this book also be used by novice java programmers?
It's not a complete introduction - no study guide could successfully do this. However, if you have some experience with J2EE Web (basic servlet knowledge and a little XML would probably suffice) then you should be able to easily work through it. The key thing to learning the language is to try lots of practical examples for yourself - be creative, think up an idea and goal and try to build it! This can be difficult for beginners because often they don't appreciate exactly what is possible, and therefore can't stretch the imagination! This is the gap a complete beginner's book should fill; but if you're content with thinking up some of your own applications and giving them a go, you would be fine working through my guide.
Is this book available in India?
Same problem as above: the book will be available to Indian customers, but we have no Indian distributors. If the book becomes a success, obviously it would warrant the investment in foreign distributors, but since this is my first self-published title, at the moment I have to err on the side of caution. As a compromise to a lack of availability in shops, international delivery will be free of charge from our website. I appreciate the cost may seem high in India, but again it's a matter of covering all the costs incurred at this end. Free international delivery is in fact a large chunk of the overall book price.

Hey Charles ,

Its so nice to have the author with us here at the Ranch. I have been learning SCWCD Kit from Hanumant Deshmukh guide and simply say , its Lovely. Would like to test your book too. I know that when an author writes a book , he has some perfect goals in his mind and hence becomes a success.

The bad part is that i live in Mumbai , India. As you said there are no distributors in India how do i grab your book. I really want to go for SCWCD with your vision. It would have been so good if it was available in India. Can i get a copy please ?

Thanks in Advance.
Your future book lover.

Yogendra Joshi.

If you don't win a copy at the end of this week, you can always order online through the website:

http://www.garnerpress.com/catalogue/BK0316

The ordering facilities should be ready at the end of this week. If it's difficult or prohibitive to pay by credit card, e-mail sales for further assistance and they'll try to help you out! Remember, with the book you get 300+ questions, a free online mock exam subscription, a short section on Java EE 5 updates, and free international delivery.

Hi Charles,
I have read the contents of the book. It seems the book is pretty organized as per the certification topics. I have just emphasized my glance on the Servlet part. The way the chatpers classified makes the reader or aspirer to feel that they are going in an pre defined and orderly manner without losing the continuity, which is the most important aspect in any of the certification oriented books. Also I have seen, in the sample chapter, the review questions almost following the real pattern and depth.

First of all my hearty congratulations on delivering such a book within a short period of time after becoming an SCWCD. Its a rare achievement. Geeting published your book within 3 years after achieving the certification is a great achievement I think.

I would definetely suggest to the future aspirants. Honestly if I had to go for the SCWCD exam @ this time, I would give a try for it. Definetely to all my friends who are in pursue of SCWCD I would suggest this book as well. All the best and please let us know your future publishings also.

Thanks,
-Surya
