Hi All,

I am not writing this specifically to win the price...
But a genuine question. Has anybody studied the book SCWCD by "Charles Lyons"?
Has anybody atleast had a look into it?
what way is it making a difference from other ordinary books for WCD books?
Also, I would like to know the level of language used in it..if it is in lucid style or a tough nut to crack.

Anybody can help me out as I am on the lookout for making more in web component developement.

Thanks in advance
Sriram.

Hello Sriram,

If you have been coming to this forum - you would have seen the entries by Charles answering multiple questions.

Also a sample chapter is available on the Garner Press to judge for yourself.

I have read through the chapter and found it clear.

Regards,
Shivani

As Shivani said, you can see the sample chapter on this page:

http://www.garnerpress.com/catalogue/BK0316

Throughout, I've aimed for straightforward English which should be pleasant to read.

Regarding the difference between this and other books, I would say the book has been through at least 4 stages of revision so there should be very few mistakes with the concepts and phrasing in the book, and there are 300+ questions contained within. Finally, the chapter content is broken down into manageable chunks (especially useful if you're employed full-time and are studying in the evenings/weekends) and there are a couple of bonus chapters on Java EE 5 changes.

hi all

I too agree a bit that HFSJ, though it has lots of pictures and grahical stuff, its seems to be a bit weird

@ someplaces it has tutorials which ask you to GUESS answers to questions, with absolutely zero previous xplanation

also the errors - they are horrifying

the xplanation to the chapter exams are very short

well, but in conditions when you are doing job and have time crunch, its the SIMPLEST book to go for.

still, the scjp book by bert and kathay was awesome.HFSJ isnt that much awesome. the SCJP book used to burn the knowledge in the brain

The book feels like a natural conversation. It's very similar to what you can read in Charles' many posts in the Ranch's SCWCD forum.
