I am happy to say that I passed SCWCD exam today with 84%. I would like to thank Javaranch for providing this wonderfull discussion forum.

The most amazing part of my preparation was reading the HFJS book coz its so fun and thats the only resource I utilized.I referred to the specs probably just once to look at dynamic-attribute in custom tags coz thats not covered in HFJS (though the book has a mock question on that) and it helped me in exam as there were atleast 2 questions on that topic. The book is amazing but weak on J2EE design pattern. There were lot of questions (10-11) on design patterns and that was the main topic responsible for me not getting into 90s.

The mock exam at the end of HFSJ was really tough and the +20 rule I heard in this forum was damn right. I scored 63 on that mock exam two days back.

Thanks Bryan, Kathy and Bert for this amazing book.

Bye Ranchers!

Thanks Yogesh!

I attempted only two mock exams-
1. HSFJ final exam at the end of the book
2. JavaRanch's 25 question mock exam

I also did a couple of questions from j2eecertificate.com but didn't attempt their final mock exam.I would suggest people to look more seriously into j2eecerticate.com site. Its pretty tight!

Congrats Ayondeep!

We're glad the book helped.

BTW, Bryan wrote up a separate tutorial on dynamic attributes - it's around the ranch somewhere - for those of you still studying for the exam

Thank you Priya!

As I have already mentioned in this discussion thread, my preparation was limited to reading the HFJS book.I read the book twice, practiced all the mock questions at the end of the chapters and made notes on each chapter(I like to write things in my own word, it works for me ).I didn't go for practice question hunting on the internet, not beacuse I didn't have time, but I wanted to test my concepts (without any help from my short term memory) and I am lazyyyyyy . I once thought to go through the complete Servlet and JSP specs and I printed them out (as I am not good in reading on the computer) but those 800 or something pages of text scared me and I dropped the idea. I used it only to refer to the dynamic-attributes. Bert have mentioned there is a tutorial on dynamic-attributes and I found it now :
https://coderanch.com/t/170429/java-Web-Component-SCWCD/certification/Tutorial-Dynamic-Attributes

I wish I knew it earlier! The only other thing which I think you need to study from somewhere else is the J2EE design patterns. I don't think you need to dig deep into the patterns but you should know atleast the bare minumum about all the J2EE design patterns and just not only the ones discussed in the book. I might be wrong but thats what I felt.

Thank you Bert! You made my day. I never thought I would be congratulated by the author of the book I was reading for last three months. Do you already have or coming up any book on Web Services? That will be my next certification (if I do any). Keep up the good work Bert!
