Hi all,

Please refer to page 719 - Sharpen your pencil exercise
The book explains the RMI and JNDI stuff on page 718.
It then asks you, in the exercise - "How the design can be improved ?"

What i want to say is -
"People who are familiar with the WCD domain, can easily fill in the answers to the exercise. But what about those who are begineers ? Don't you all guys think that the book should provide proper answers to all of the
exercises. The answers to the exercise on page 719, become obvious only after you are at the end of the chapter. But i think there should be a 'formal' answer for this ( and other ) unanswered exercises"

Bert, please take a note of this. I think there are lots of other exercises in the book, that dont have a formal explanation given. I dont have exact page numbers for such exercises.

Also, something about the sections 'Review of WCD design pattern' in the same chapter. Refer to page number 746. Where do the two arrows end ? I think the upper arrow ends in a JNDI server, while the lower one ends in a Service box. But what i want to say, on such a important page, where you are reviewing the design pattern, the figure should be fairly complete. I dont expect a detailed figure as on the previous pages, but at least a fairly complete figure is expected.

Hope i am not asking for too much.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Niranjan,

These are good questions. As far as exercise solutions, we're working with O'Reilly to provide these, along with new supplementary material. We don't have a timetable yet, but when we do we'll post it here.

As for page 746, the reason we designed the page this way is because we really wanted you to focus on the core of the pattern, and while something like a JNDI server cound have been added, it's not really essential to the pattern...typical, yes, essential no. I thinks this comes down to a teaching style - we will take your idea as a suggestion, and when we update the book we'll take another look

Thanks,

Bert
