Hi all

i finished reading HFSJ once ( some weeks back ).
Now i am reading it for the second time.
I am reading fast, as i had read it once.
The first three chapters are really an eye opener for some of the fundamental concepts related to requests/response in HTTP protocol.

The second chapter explains nicely the three names that a servlet can have.
It also tells the fundamental things like difference between Web Server and container and what does the container does for us, need for the MVC
( BOB's website) what exactly is a full fledged J2EE server.

The third chapter has a very very nice MVC tutorial, nice iterative development for the beer servlet. the version 1 of the serlvet test whether all the pieces ( entires in web.xml) of the web app are in place. version 2 of the servlet uses the model, but displays the response using HTML in the servlet code itself. version 3 of the servlet uses a JSP to forward the response to. Here I tried changing the path of the jsp , inside the argument to the getRequestDispatcher() method, and i came to know the difference between request.getRequestDispatcher() and getServletConfig().getRequestDispatcher() methods.

All this post i typed without looking into the book.
So you can take it, this explanation, i typed is, a nutshell of HFSJ first 3 chapters. Though the authors say, that it isnt necessary to remember things from these chapters, these chapters really freshens you up for the long journey ahead, and have lots of concepts that every IT professional must know

I plan to finish 3 more chapters tommorow - on sunday.

Thanks in advance

Hi,
I too have finished reading HFSJ once. But the thing is there are so many new things you have to make sure you remember everything before the big day. Thats why am postponing my exam by another two weeks. I have finished HFSJ once and halfway through the second time.

Thanks & Regards,
Abhishek

Hi,

My preperation is also coming along very nicely. I am almost coming to the end of the book the first time. Actually I read the first 9 chapters twice before going to the 10th one.

I never know what is a Servlet cause I don't do web developing stuffs at my office. But as Niranjan explained, the first 3 chapters are a very good eye opener and I loved the way the explained their mini MVC tutorial.

After finishing 9 chapters (twice), I felt like "Oh my god, 4 more to go"... And I was very scared of the Web App Security and Filter and Wrappers chapters. But I had no problems in understanding the content.

I am in the middle of the last chapter, just 20 pages to go.... After that, I will go through the book 2 more times before taking my Coffee Cram mock exam. Then I will take on the big one.

hey niranjan,

small note about you post. i believe it should be getServletContext.getRequestDispatcher("/ff.jsp"); just wanted to point it out.

Guess you need to update and correct your signature..

Sept is already gone and there is no SCDWJS
