Hi,

In Servlet 2.4 Spec, Unavailable Exception is thrown by servlet instance during initialization.

Can anyone explain me what does this exception mean??

Hi Anju,

If you read the specification then it mentions that when this exception is thrown when the servlet or filter is temporarily or permanently unavailable.
When permanent then there is something wrong with your servlet configuration.
When temporary then it could be a system wide problem.Handling temporary unavailability increases robustness and blocks any request to be handled by the servlet.

I hope it helps.

Best Regards,
Pallavi

And forgot to add that if it is
Permanent unavailability then one needs to check the logs and take a corrective action.
Temporary unavailability(could be due to lack of disk memory to handle requests).

Cheers,
Pallavi
