Thanks so much to all you SCWCDers!!
Bryan: Yes. After passing the Sun Certified Java Programmer's Certificate, I bought HFSJ and installed
Tomcat on my Solaris box. But then a Developer Guru at my work place advised that if I really want to get a position in Development more quickly, because of my minimal programming experience, I should take the SCJD first. I am really glad I listened to him. Even if he turns out to be wrong, I had so much fun taking the SCJD and I learned so much, but in a different way than what I learned studying for the SCWCD exam. SCJD was good for me because of my minimal development experience and I learned so much about the real issues Developers face in the real world, documentation, ambiguous/conflicting requirements, etc. SCJD is unique. I enjoyed the process tremendously. However, often during the period working on the SCJD, I kept wanting to go back to my HFSJ book and learn more about
Servlets and JSPs, but I had to resist.
So after hanging up the hard-won SCJD Certificate, I immediately want back to my HFSJ book and my Tomcat instance and embarked on this SCWCD exam. It took me so long because I have demanding QA position at my work and I don't have as much time to study, but I just stuck with it, thanks to your killer HFSJ book, and was able to pass the exam. It is hard to compare SCJD and SCWCD. They are both awesome, but different. For me I had to take the SCJD first, but others may see differently.
Hdi Zri: Yes, Roby is correct. You have to get the Sun Certified Java Programmer's Certificate first. Then you can take the Sun Certified Web Component Developer's Exam.
Michelle pinks: Thanks. I only used HFSJ and this Javaranch forum, plus maybe some of the Tomcat documentation at times, but that is about it.
Good Luck to the rest of you SCWCDers. You will all pass, too, soon!
