hello All,
can someone give me a brief idea to create a functionality like carrierbuilder and any job search related site, where on the first page user needs to submit his/her resume, and after that on the second page he is asked for his details, like name addres , ocupation..etc..

how do i use html,Jsp's, servlets,?
As i m preparing for SCWCD so wanted to do some coding..
where to store a resume? if i dont have access to real database, is there a possiblity to create my own database using excel or something else?and if yes , how??

Thanks,
mallika

MySQL is popular open source database.

Seriously though, I recommend learning to submit a simple form and convert it to a JavaBean or something easy like that first. Always start with small working pieces first.

And if you're working on SCWCD, there's no sense in mucking around too much with backend code (DAOs and such) because it will slow down your SCWCD learning.

Thanks Mark for the advice...
you are right, my main focus should be scwcd..cause if i would try for backend thing it would take all my time..

but i too need a project idea...
that will be more of focussed on the frontend..will make me apply all the wcd concepts right from servlet to design patterns..

can one post some problem statements here... ?

I agree with Mark. I'm also working on a sample web app to prepare for SCWCD(as recommended by some at the Ranch) and will start out building the model with simple POJOs that hardcode the resonses to simulate database lookups. I think MySQL will be a great way to take the app to the next level (esp. if you want to pay someone to host it) but any time you spend learning that now is time you're not spending on the SCWCD objectives.

Similarly, for practicing container managed security I will be using the memory realm (tomcat-users.xml). When I refactor the web app later, it should be easy enough to move it to MySQL using the JDBC or DataSource realm.

Another item to ignore for now obviously is HTML formatting. Just focus on the nuts and bolts.
