Response attribute?

In a java related website I read that request and response attributes are thread safe. My question is it possible to have attribute in a response?

There is nothing called a response attribute!

What would be the design decision prevents Response attributes

ServletReponse & HttpServletResponse APIs do not have methods for manipulating attribute values. No setters/getters there!
