When there is a request for a static resource say a .html file. This request comes to web server. Now Does webserver services this request itself or it forwards this request to the web-container?

HFSJ book [p-71] shows that webserver passes this request to web-container
SCWCD book by hanumant deshmukh shows that webserver handles requests for static resources (like .html etc)

These 2 are contradicting.. Please Help

Let's use the more common term "servlet container" instead of "web container".

The answer is that it depends on the architecture and the server. You can have a setup where static content is handled by the web server, and dynamic content by the servlet container (e.g. if Apache is used in conjunction with Tomcat), or you can have Tomcat serve both static and dynamic content.
