Hi,
I am facing some problems to log in into the javaranch account since yesterday..
I am registered under the name "Trupti Nigam" . but if I try to log in I get a message that no one is registered under this name.
I requested the password from javaranch..and so the password I am providing is also correct one.
Due to this problem I again registered under the name "Sonal bhat" but now also I am facing the same problem. It says thanks for log in but the top of the page displays that i am not logged in..
due to this I can not post my queries..please let me know the solution..
thanks..
Trupti nigam

Hi Paul,
I typed in the letters as "trupti nigam" ..I couldn't log in..
Is there any expiration for the account?
thanks,
trupti

No, there's no expiration, and your account seems to be normal. What if you try logging in from a different computer? Or restarting your browser, or rebooting? The error you're getting is pretty unusual if you're typing the name in as you say - perhaps your system is using some unusual encoding? Or appending spaces or other characters before or after?

Actually, in UBB it is not case sensitive (although it is in Jive).

You've been a member since 6-21-2001 and only now you are having a problem logging in?

Maybe it is a cookie problem. Try deleting all your cookies. Stop all your browsers. Reboot and try again.

Hi Marilyn,
I have never faced this problem earlier..
on the contrary whenever I used to visit the javaranch site I automatically used to log in.
As told by you I have deleted all the cookies..restarted the machine. But still I have the same problem. It says no one is registered under this name..
On the internate explorer I have disabled cookies..not due to this problem but trying out my own example stuff..
If the problem is in the encoding stuff..how do I solve it?
thanks in advance..

You need to have cookies enabled in order to login. However, when I disable my cookies, I get a message that I'm logged in, but at the top of the page it still says that I'm not logged in. I don't get any error message similar to yours.

As for encoding being the problem - eh, forget I said that. I can't think of a way that would work really.
Here's the thing - as a sheriff, I can look up your password, and I just used this to log into your account myself to make sure it works. I didn't get any error message. So I'm thinking there's something specific to your environment which is the problem - even though I have no idea what that might be. Has anything been changed recently?
I suggest you try logging into your account from:
(b) your own computer using a different browser
(c) your own computer using a different ISP
(d) another computer using the same ISP
(e) another computer using a different ISP
to see if this has any effect. Also, try creating a new JavaRanch account to see if you can log into it instead.
I realize you may not have easy access to all these options - but the more of these you can try, the better your chances to isolate the problem. We may be able to suggest other possibilities based on your results.

ok..here I am again..
Today I tried to log into the javaranch account..and I was able to log in successfully..
I never thought "disabling the cookies" will create so much of trouble for me..
Actually with cookies diabled I was able to log in to all my other web site accounts.
just got curious ..why only this account gave me trouble?/
any way thanks all of you for responding..
trupti
