Url encoding and Url rewriting terminology confusion

Here is how I understand what these terms mean
Url rewriting is adding a session id to the url when cookies are disabled
Url encoding is the process of making a url rid of spaces in the query paramteres etc.

encodeURL(String url) adds a sessionid. Should this have been named rewriteURL(Strting url) to be more appropriate. Am I missing something

I have looked at the api and searched the forum here, did not find an explanation. Thanks in advance for your explanation.

No, you are correct URL rewriting uses the encodeURL method, It is very confusing. Yo just have to know that that is the way it is
