Hi Friends,

I have already taken the SCJP1.4 examination and cleared it and now I want to go for another certification Examination.I have 10 months of work-ex in Java and the company I work in works on EJB,Hibernate,JSF etc. We now rarely use JSP,Servlets& Struts. I am very good at databases and would like to have another certification in databases as well so that my scope is not limited at any one junction.

Could you all please guide me that at this stage in my career should I go for the SCWCD certification exam first or the OCP (ORACLE)? I intend to take both the exams its just the matter of which to go for first.

Thanking you all in anticipation of your wonderful suggestions.

It really doesn't matter which one you decide to take first. The both aren't exactly related to one another. If you write webapps you should have some DB skills but the reverse isn't true. Why don't you do it in parallel?

The two are very different from one another. Do whichever you like most first or save the most fun one last. It doesn't matter since you'll be doing both anyway

Hi,
The thing is that I intend to take anyone of the Certification Examinations before the end of December. I know that they are not related but still I am in a fix as to which exam should I go for first?

What OCP track are you following. DBA or Developer. Im OCA Developer and SCJP1.4. Im currently not working with Oracle Forms at all but Im verry interested in Oracle ADF and Java programming. If you're also interested in "new" Oracle technologies I suggest to go for your SCWCD wich relates a lot to Oracle ADF where Oracle doesn't yet provide a certification path for ADF Developer. Im now working on my SCJD and SCWCD. OCP Developer can wait for me.

Hope this wil help you.

Thanks Melvin. I would want to be an ORACLE developer rather than DBA. So what lines should I follow? Should I go for a OCP next and take it by December and then SCWCD???

It depends on how many Oracle certificates you already have. To complete OCP Developer track you must take three exams. Introduction Oracle SQL, PL/SQL programming and Building Internet Apps with Oracle Forms. If you're working a lot with JSP and related technologies I would go for SCWCD...or just follow your heart.

Hi Melvin,
As you said to complete the developer track in ORACLE I would have to clear 3 exams and I would rather take all the 3 exams together and at the end rather than making SCWCD wait for those 3 exams.

So now its SCWCD by december end for me and later on I would hop onto the Oracle Developer Track...

Hope you and other Ranchers extend their best wishes to me.Need a lot of them keeping the present goals in mind.

On what basis did you make this comparison? SCWCD and OCP?

Than your comparison should be OCP or DB2. You are comparing two different directions.
