A session will always be invalidated if the servlet container restarts The standard does not dictate how sessions are stored.---FALSE
Thus under Tomcat sessions are stored in a file and will be invalidated if it restarts, but under a different container the sessions may be stored in a database and survive a system restart.

This is not a container dependent question, it is a question about what the Servlet/JSP standards dictate, i.e. can you be confident that a session will not exist after a restart.
