In my 10 year tracking of the SCJP Sun has never released a new version of the exam without previously announcing that there would be a beta test period.

More than that, how much would you care to wager that the 5 objectives are identical to those of the 1.4 exam? How so? SCWCD 5 won't make anything from SCWCD 1.4 obsolete. Any studying you do for 1.4 will be perfectly valid for either exam.
