The Sun was launching a new version of SCWCD.

It's not official, but at CertManager (http://www.certmanager.net/sun) is already listed.

See more at:

Thanks for sharing this. It is listed as an exam on the CertManager site. I don't see it anywhere else yet.

As soon as we hear anything official, Bert, Evelyn, or one of the moderators will post something here about it.

Will they go live without a beta?

So, this new SCWCD exam, plus a new SCJP 6.0 exam (link to Java 6 SCJP Certification) and SCEA in beta, could the web services certification update be that far behind?

I guess with very little changing, a beta may not be needed.

Hmmmmm.

Is it typical for mature exams to skip the beta process?

According to Marcus Green, From Another Post, it isn't.

In my 10 year tracking of the SCJP Sun has never released a new version of the exam without previously announcing that there would be a beta test period.

So, if there will be a beta exam for SCWCD 5, who will be eligible? I mean a person having SCWCD 1.4 would be eligible?

There's nothing official yet, but for those interested, you can get the specs for Servlets 2.5 and JSP 2.1 here. If you want to know what's new, you can try the following pages :
  • What's new in Servlets 2.5
  • What's new in JSP 2.1

    Argh!

I was planning to take SCWCD 1.4 in a week. But now I feel like waiting.

Perhaps I'll take the SCBCD 5 test and then come back for SCWCD 5.

    Hmmmm.

    Hmmm
I can't understand anything of what you wrote . Also on Sun's page I see no info about new version of SCWCD exam. Maybe you know the time of announcing the new exam version? I am very suprised that Sun announced new version of SCJP (6) (which is really nothing new in case of objectives - some subtle differences) but nothing about SCWCD 5.

There no are official information, on CertManager (http://www.certmanager.net/sun), link to Certification Progress, the new version is already listed, though.
If you have a netId on CertManager, make your login and see that.

How so? SCWCD 5 won't make anything from SCWCD 1.4 obsolete. Any studying you do for 1.4 will be perfectly valid for either exam. Don't give yourself an excuse to be lazy!

Jothi, yes, you would be able to take a beta if there is one. I plan on sitting for it myself and I already have two versions of SCWCD under my belt. Again, that could still be months and months from now... assuming the SCWCD 5 ever truly comes to fruition.

More than that, how much would you care to wager that the 5 objectives are identical to those of the 1.4 exam?

Good news is all current exam study material would still apply - bad news is that I have no idea how employers will view exams with identical objectives and different names. Bad news for publishers is that the titles on current books will be wrong (like mine, which says SCWCD 1.4!). That all seems like a very confusing state of affairs!

Not sure if there will be a Beta or not... it's tipped there will be no objective changes and Sun have been putting additional questions in the real exams recently (as many on the Ranch have commented: they have received additional unmarked questions in their exams), presumably to gauge the quality of new questions. Both suggest the prolonged process of a Beta might not be necessary.

I think that this is because the new version isn't official yet. So nobody can't be able to make it.

As such based on the very first post in this thread, there would have been an update/post here once it is launched.

Perhaps, you can keep watching the Sun website i would suggest!

Any updates on this already? Surely the writes could tell us whether they are currently preparing a new version of their books?

It's rather difficult for anyone to start writing until they know what the objectives are.

According to Bert - objectives are just the same, which makes me confused.

It's chinese new year next week. In addition to prosperity, I will also wish that the new SCWCD includes jsf (its a stretch, and unlikely, but hopefully portlets too).
