HttpSessionActivationListener must be configured in the deployment descriptor via the listener tag

Is this statement true or false ?

According to me and HFJS, the above statement is true.
But in one of the mocks by Marcus Green, this statement is said to be false.
So need to confirm.

yes that's right:

By adding a <listener> element in the deployment descriptor as
shown here:
<web-app>
...
<listener>
<listener-class>MySessionActivationListener</listener-class>
</listener>
...
</web-app>
