if a
servlet
exist in both WEB-INF/classes and WEB-INF/lib/servlets.jar,which one is given preference i.e which servlet will handle the request

Needless to say, it is not a good idea to keep multiple versions of a class in your classpath.
Don't get me started about those stupid
light bulbs
