this isn't intended to spark debate on the naming policy, but hopefully make it easier to implement. why not programmatically require two names by having two fields on the registration page, and then require all posters to be registered or to enter two names as well if unregistered postings are allowed? it won't prevent "bugs bunny" and "mickey mouse" from signing up, but at least the moderators won't have to fill the message boards with postings about changing user names - it would make many of the posts easier to read, and would probably save server space as well.
just a thought,
Jon

Thanks for the suggestion, it has been made quite often and we've even gone so far as to try a couple of test runs at it. Although with the impending switch to Jive we haven't actually gone and implemented it yet.

We think it's about ready. Now the tough part is converting everything over to it. It's really a question of when will we have time to make the move.

We have a new sign-up page for UBB which hasn't been properly hooked up yet (my fault).
Thomas has done a great job of getting jive ready for use, but we have to move all of the old messages over. As I understand it, Carl was taking that task on and suddenly got swamped with real life work stuff (remember, we are all volunteers). Keep in mind that Carl does a mountain of stuff around here every week, so....
