Hi , I was trying to work with EL(expression language) in a jsp,but when I am running that jsp I am getting that EL as simple text"
Say like I have El in my jsp as: ${someMap.name},
now when i am accessing this jsp i rather than am getting the value for this i am getting the response as ${someMap.name}.
Any idea?
I know EL works with JSP2.0. I am using tomcat5.X nad eclise3.1 for wrting this.

Assuming you do not have isElIgnored="true" as a page directive and do not have <el-ignored>true<...> in a <jsp-property-group> tag, I found a tip that says, "If web.xml is declared to be of version 2.3, then it disables EL evaluation on the page by default.". The tip is at the following link:

same problem happened with me as well. I added isElIgnored = false and it worked. But as someone said its a "dirty fix". better get the xml stuff correct...
