The new registration is now up and running! The rules have been changed to reflect this - it would be nice if y'all would log out and give it a try!
Jason Adam ran point on this project. He actually got all the hard parts done months ago, but I've been draggin my feet on merging it with UBB.
Dave Vick, Carl Trusiak, Jim Yingst, Mapraputa Is, Marilyn de Queiroz, and a few other bartenders and sheriffs helped too.
Try it out and give us some feedback!

If I leave the supposedly optional e-mail address blank, I get a JavaScript alert error box telling me that the e-mail address is not in a valid format.

Okay,
I'm gonna change it back.
You can still access the new page at http://www.javaranch.com/register.html

It should be working the old way now.
On the up side, I have a quick way to switch it back once we get everything figured out.

It looks like the right page isn't getting called either.
I thought these were both things that we fixed a long time ago. I must be working from an old version of the register page ...

Okay,
I think I found the right version of register.
Try http://www.javaranch.com/register.html and see if it works okay now.

If you turn off JavaScript when submitting the registration form, you can still use an illegal name like this one.

It's all about keeping the honest people honest. At least this should cut down some of the name policy posts.

Should I turn it back on? I think we might be ready. If nothing else, it is better than what we have now and any minor tweaking could be done later.
Sound good?

It could maybe use a coupla tweaks, but seems to be working ok for the majority of cases. It certainly seems sufficient for the time being.
