Hi Panda,
I welcome you to Java World.
I suggest you to learn basics of Java using any fundamental Java book, get to know about object oriented features in java like what is polymorphism, inheritance, encapsulation,.etc.. Then prepare for Sun Certified Java Professional(SCJP).
It may take you sometime to get certification. Once u get SCJP, you will get confidence to go for other certifications.
All the best!
Regards,
Rizwan,
SCJA, SCJP.

A good starter book is 'Thinking In Java', it is free to download. Google for it GIYF - Thinking in Java .

You might think about doing the SCJA exam first, you then get a overview understanding of a lot of Java / J2EE technologies.
