I'm curious why people are taking this test? What are your goals and how is What is your motivation in taking the SCJA??

As for me, I'm an incoming college senior majoring in managerial economics and i want to take this test because i find programming interesting and I believe it'll be useful to me when I enter the "real world".

Actually to be more in-depth, 4 months ago I absolutely had no experience with programming. as-in nada. haven't even heard of a for-loop. A week before summer session was to start, I injured my foot and as a result took two java programming classes in a junior college. I guess I liked it and wanted to do something with it, so I read more and more. Now I'm hoping to take this test before I graduate.

Wow there's a lot of typos in that. Mod can you fix the title and the first paragraph?

With no experience in programming, I find it quite difficult to study for this test. It seems that there is a shortage of material that teaches the relevant concepts. Sure there are the sun J2EE tutorial and the yahoo work-group links. But still, these tutorials seem to be geared towards CS people. I recently purchased the o'reilly JSP book (1st edition because i'm a broke college student) and to my suprise I learned most of the Java flavors from it. Been debating if I should take the Sun online classes, but it's rather $. I did however purchased the whizlab scja program, and to tell you the truth, it lacked any meaningful explanation to why I got this one question wrong. I dunno is there anyone on the same boat as me? or can anyone suggest any resources (books/efiles) that could help me out?

I am currently studying for the SCJA. It seems to suit my background and goals...I have a BSCS, have several years of coding experience (mostly M$-specific, a fair amount of SQL), am returning from a four year venture into the dark side of technology (management), have just started a Java coding job, and am aiming to take SCJP, etc later on.

Studying for the SCJA has not been as easy as initially expected, but then again I am learning allot. My end goal is to be knowledgable about Java so the seemingly extra unnecessary (for the SCJA) information learned is OK with me.

I should sit the exam in the next few weeks and will be reporting back to the forum with my opinions on the exam itself, my study aids, and such.

Here's a littel motivational blurb I wrote on my website, www.examscam.com

This exam covers a much wider breath of information, while not being so focusses on intricate details about GridBagLayouts and Java I/O. I think this will be the next big certification.

Prove Yourself to Everyone with the SCJA Certification
There's a New Java Certification in Town, and You NEED It!!!

If you want to prove your worth in the Java community, if you want to prove to the world that you know your way around the Standard Development toolKit, and you want to prove to all of those prospective employers and clients that you definitively understand the high level applications of J2EE and J2ME technologies, then Sun Microsystems has given you the perfect opportunity, by allowing you to prove yourself on the Sun Certified Java Associates exam. (SCJA).
Silly Objectives Removed: Important, Encompassing Objectives Have Been Added

No longer do you need to know the mind-numbing intricacies of the GridBagLayout to acquire a Java certification. Now, a perfect certification exam exists that allows you to demonstrate what you know, not what you dont know. The SCJA designation is the title that everyone now needs to demonstrate a well-rounded, proficiency with Java.
Make No Mistake, It's a Tough Exam!!!

But the SCJA exam is no cakewalk. If you want to pass this exam, youll have to study, and youll have to be prepared to tackle questions on an incredibly wide range of topics, including the significance of J2ME profiles on MIDlet program, to the appropriate applications of Servlet and EJB technologies. Throw in some tough questions on basic Java syntax, and youve got one intimidating Java certification exam.
Get the Right Resources: May We Suggest Ours?

But you dont have to be intimidated if you have the worlds most thorough and effective certification guide by your side. The ExamScam.com, SCJA certification guide will step you through every single objective listed on this exam, giving detailed explanations of critical J2EE and J2ME technologies, while at the same time, testing you on the fundamentals of the Java programming language. Throw in over 100 test questions that simulate the real exam better than every other exam preparation resource on the market, and youve practically assured yourself a pass on this tough, but critically important, industry wide acknowledged, Java certification exam.

As much as I would like to correct things like this, my policy is to leave other people's words as they posted them. I only edit posts that violate JavaRanch policy -- e.g., copyright issues. (Okay... I sometimes insert Code Tags if that formatting is really needed for clarity, but that's not common in this forum.)

You can edit your own posts by clicking on the paper/pencil icon.

I will also take this opportunity to remind everyone: Please be careful with your spelling, and avoid using abbreviations.

WebSphere books are out. SCJA should be up in about a week or two. Thanks for the interest. Lots of free stuff on examscam.com in the meantime.
