Well, 'someone without Java knowledge' is a pretty broad statement. Are we talking a master Smalltalk programer that doesn't know Java, or a car thief that wants a change of careers?

SCJA requires a very BROAD knowledge of the Internet, and Internet related technologies. You don't need to know all the ins and outs of the Java language, like SCJP, but you do need to know all of the various ways that Java incarnates itself, from applets, to midlets, to Servlets to EJBs. You don't need to konw Java syntax inside out to pass SCJA, but you DO need to have a strong, fundamental knowledge of the distributed, network environment we live in.

For a college grad with a few Java courses under their belt, I'd say a good month is needed to study for and pass the SCJA, but of course, that also assumes they have the right resources. I could suggest a few if you want.

Cheers!
