Hello All,

I am planning to write the SCJA exam asap. I am interested in knowing the details of the costs involved and the procedure to register for the exam. I found in the Sun's website that the exam is 100$. I stay in Virginia, USA so I looked for Prometric center nearby and found the net price to be 300$ when I selected SCJA exam from the drop down. So I am in a doubt if the cost is 400$ in total to take the SCJA exam.

Please help me in this issue, as I feel 400$ is very expensive.

I have gone through the posts for SCJA in Java Ranch and found 3 books by author Cameron. So, please let me know if I need all the 3 to write the exam. Also let me know the preparation time required as I am very interested in knocking it out asap.

Thanks,
Chandana

I'm actually taking this tomorrow, and as far as I know my testing center didn't charge anything above the cost of the exam, which was shocking. I hope I'm not in for an unpleasant surprise when I show up to take it. I ordered the exam first through Sun. Then on the Prometric site I entered the voucher number. Perhaps the costs outside the exam are site specific.

In regard to the books, I have both the Mock Questions and the SCJA Study Guide. Get them both and give yourself a few weeks to read them and do all the questions. Cameron explained a lot of things much easier than any of my instructors or texts did before, and they are great practice. The only downside is there are still some typos that in some cases are problematic. OVerall, though, they have been well worth the money.

Charles, thanks for your reply... and all the best for tomorrow. Do let me know the result tomorrow. Hope you dont have any surprises tomorrow at the test center.

Anyone else, who has already written the exam please reply to my post. So I that I can be sure about the registration process and the cost involved.

Thanks,

It's my understanding that in the United States, the cost of the Sun voucher covers everything for the SCJA exam, so the testing center should not be charging anything additional.

First, I suggest going back to the Prometric site and verify that you selected the correct exam. You might have accidentially selected SCEA instead of SCJA.

If that doesn't clear it up, I suggest you call the testing center to put your mind at ease.

Let us know what you find.

Marc, I contacted the testing center and they told me that I just need to enter the voucher number and I need not pay ony extra amount.

Please let me know your comments on SCJA Sun Certified Java Associate Study Guide (Exam CX-310-019) (Study Guide & CD) (Hardcover) by Alfred Smith (Author) and also which would be the best books to refer.

Thanks
Chandana

Thanks for checking on that Chandana. I was starting to obsess, and heaven knows my credit card cannot take another hit.

In regard to those books: I recommend getting them both. The study guide offers a wonderful review, while the mock exams are helpful in applying what you've learned.
