Howdy Greenhorn!

Most of the answers to your questions can be found in the SCJA Faq, right here on JavaRanch:

SCJA Faq on JavaRanch - Books, Courses and How to Sign Up for the Exam

There are no required courses, or any experience requirement to become SCJA certified. All you need to do is pass a very challenging, 50 or so question from Sun Microsystems.

The SCJA Faq discusses how to register. You first buy a voucher from Sun, and I think it costs about $150US. When you have the voucher, you can go to Prometric or 2test.com and then schedule an exam, using that special voucher number. You then simply go into the testing center of your choice, and write the exam.

Check out my signature links for some sample mock scja exams to help you out and give you an idea of what is on the Sun Certified Java Associate exam.

The very best of luck to you!
