I noticed there was some concern about this forum being "not too active," so here I am! Kidding aside, I am taking the
SCJA next Wednesday, June 4th, and feel fairly prepared. I have taken the following steps so far:
1. Head First
Java to learn the basics
2. Coding an App on my own while studying...
3. Cameron's SCJA guide
4. Made up flashcards (about 170 so far) from the guide, plus some other topics. My friend will be quizzing me for the next week with those. If it is in the guide, I should have it down.
I will be taking some of the free online tests between now and then as well, I feel like I should be in good shape.
So, I have looked through the "Objectives" from Sun, and there seem to be a few topics which seem like they are not covered in the SCJA guide, although they are covered in some form. I have highlighted them as follows:
Enumerations: Seem bigger in the
test compared to the book. I have used these in code, but at a most basic level. Think I need to know more?
High level for RMI - not much in the book, is it enough?
High level for
JDBC, SQL and RDBMS - Not much, or nothing in the guide on these.
High level for J2ME midlets - Again, not too much in the guide, is it enough?
I have done some searches through the site to see if these have come up already, and that did resolve some questions. Basically, it comes down to "What might you be adding to the next release of your book?"
These are "high level" questions, but really the only remaining areas of concern.
Thanks for the help,
Rory
