Hi,
In my assignment the statements given below really makes me confusing.
"Additionally, the program must be able to work in a non-networked mode. In this mode, the database and user interface run in the same VM and no networking is performed. The user must be able to select the operating mode, although it is acceptable that the program stay in one mode once it has started up."

Can anyone with the same instruction, please help me....
Thanks in advance,
Subha

Subha,
I'm still waiting to get access to download my assignment, but this requirement appears to indicate that a user can specify (maybe as a command argument or properties file) the location of the database, which maybe local to the VM. Once this is specified, you do not have to support connecting to a different database location while the application is executing ("acceptable that the program stay in one mode").
Once I have my assignment, can we ask Sun for requirements clarifications (like this)?
Scott

Wow!!! Wonderful explanation. Thanks for you reply. Once you get your assignment we can ask Sun for clarification.
If anyone who have completed their project can also give some idea about what we think is correct.

Hi,
You cannot ask Sun for any clarifications. In fact the instructions mention clearly that one of the factors that you are being graded on is your decision making capability based on imperfect specifications.
As for the network / local mode stuff, You should be able to run your client server application in either server mode or local mode (in which case there is no server running). This choice has to be made available to the user from the GUI.
Hope this helps . . .
Best Regards,
ST

Hi ST,
By reading old mails from the Dalls e-group I am thinking that what you are saying is correct. Can you please tell me how will it be possible if I deploy the class files into different directories like server files in server directory and client files in client directory then the program won't be able to use the Data class.
In the mean time I am also going to read more. If I get anything I will update hear.
Thanks so much,
Subha
