Hey ALL--
I've got my prject working now. There are two minor bugs that I need to fix, and then I need to go through and improve my design/algorithms although I think they are reasonably sound right now. One thing that concerns me though. I successfuly ran in network mode (across town....it was cool), but it was VERY slow. Of course, in local mode, there is no lag, but in network mode, it probably took 20 seconds for the GUI to come up. I know that there are things I can do in my code to improve this, but it got me to thinking: how do I know if my code is responsible or it's just a slow network connection, and how slow is too slow for this project. I guess the database is so small that they don't expect significant delays and that that would be penalized pretty severely. However, can we assume that they are going to run our projects on the same exact box in different VMs or is there the chance that they will run on altogether different boxes (by they I mean the client and server). Thanks all.

With Respect,
Matt

My reading of the instructions tells me that they don't care about performance - in fact if you complicate the code to enhance performance, they may penalize you.
Try to use localhost for your network and see if it speeds up at all. I don't know for sure, but I'll bet they run both on the same machine for testing.
