I recently cleared my Programmer exam with 80%. I dont have any programming experience in real life. But I intend to go through the Developer exam. I have started to read Heller. I want to know:-
1)Are there any other good books that one needs to refer to?
2)Which approach should I adopt? The RMI approach or the Server socket approach?
3)Would JQDev help? JQPlus really helped me for my Programmers exam.
4) Does one need to know a lot before one starts ? I do understand that this exam would be more of a "learning along the way" process, yet is the knowledge that made me pass the programmer exam sufficient to begin this?

I would advise that you gain some work experience first (you could also just think up some small projects to save yourself the exam fees). Just getting certified will not get you very far w/o accompanying experience. Part of the process is to investigate topics that you are unfamiliar with so that you can assess the pros/cons of the alternatives (i.e. sockets vs RMI). This is all a learning process and hopefully you'll do most of this by yourself so that you can advance your knowledge.

Thank you Mr. Doug Melzer, for your very kind advice. Even I had that in mind to take up a job first.
I am sorry I did not see your reply earlier. But I was indisposed due to a surgery and find myself fit to give a reply only now. Moreover this prevents me from taking up a job atleast for a month. Then I am going for a two month vacation to the US. So I thought that I'd just download an assignment from Sun for the Developer exam and work and study on it.
Anyway, I appreciate your point of view. Thanks a lot.You speak of doing some project first. I will definitly consider your advice.
Thank you once again.

Mr.Doug Melzer,
Can you advice me a little more on doing projects by myself. What kind of projects?
Also can you direct me to some good books on RMI and SERVER SOCKET's ?
Thanks.

Have a look @ Java 2 Developer's Handbook by Philip Heller & Simon Roberts for RMI.
And don't miss the tutorial on RMI @ SUN site.

Thanks a lot Dilip. I already have Robert and Hellers book on Java 2 Certification that also covers the Developer's Exam. I have given it one reading. I need to give it a second reading. Yes it is goodenough but is that sufficient?
And yes, I will look at the Sun tutorials on RMI.Thanks a lot for your kind word and help. Do keep writing. What is your background?
