What is
final static char sc = 'A';
used for in all of the classes from sun. I haven't found any use and if I comment them out the application works fine.

I also deleted them, I think they put these lines to test the candidate whether he paid attention to whatever sources they provided. Any comments are welcome.

Yes, they are completely useless. It's possible that 'sc' stands for score...perhaps, as in 'A', 'B', 'C', etc.
I dont know, who cares

I figured it could stand for Source Control and indicate the version of the source given to the candidate. Anyway, it didn't hurt so I left it in personally.

It also shows that they don't know about java's naming conventions.
