Hi all-
I'm currently coding my assignment -- Fly By Night -- and have set up a swing-based login UI which prompts the user for local/remote, then uses pop-up dialogs to locate a) the local file if need be or b) the name and port of a remote rmi server. I think it's much more user friendly as I was tired of trying to remember where I had put a particular copy of a database.
The other reason was that I plan to add a menu item to take the user back to the login UI if he/she wants to switch DBs.
My question is whether I am likely to get dinged for this as I've heard that providing extra functionality can go against you.
thanks in advance

They only see whether you've implemented the required funtionality correctly. But, if because of the extra functionality you compromise on the clarity of required functionality then it may go against you. So whatever you do, make sure that the required functionaly is well built, clear, easily understandable and maintanable.
HTH,
Paul.
