Need hostname/port with RMI?

I am using RMI for the project. I started to build in text fields for hostname/port input, but then I caught myself - do I need these? Does the RMI server need to export it's object to another machine's registry (ie, LocateRegistry.getRegistry(host, port)? I did not think that this was a requirement of the project, but now I'm not so sure.
Thanks,
Andrew

Although rmiregistry is based on LocateRegistry services, the rmiregistry code itself only accepts stubs from server code that is running on the same machine. So they *have* to share one system -- that's why it's important to make sure the server code and the rmiregistry do not share a CLASSPATH.
