Hello all, it feels like I'm an 'official freshman' in the Java Certification track. I passed my SCJP2 back in Oct. and I'm looking to take the SCJD by March 2002. Could someone write me a detailed response on where to start and what to expect. By the way does anyone know if the Enthuware SCJD prep tool any good ?

I was (still am) in the same boat. I passed SCJP in late August, then I began looking for info on the SCJD. It's hard to find.
Basically, this is what you need to know from a newby perspective. You have to do a programming assignment, then take a written exam (which basically is a test to prove you wrote the program and not somebody else).
What I did was get info was to read this news group, plus any and every link I could find containing SCJD information. After about a month or so of constantly reading the posts, I got a good flavor for what's on the test. I know that it will be difficult, but it will be also be doable for me.
In order to download the test, you have to call up SUN (same phone number as for your SCJP) and order another exam voucher. It costs you $250 (plus another $150 to take the written test!). They don't let you see the test ahead of time before you buy, you just have to pay your money.
It took me about a month to get up the nerve to actually download the test because $250 is a *LOT* of money. However, today was the big day for me. I downloaded the test and have officially jumped into the SCJD waters!
My first official act was to figure out how to get into the database that they provide. It took me all of about ten minutes. I believe the rest of the project will be more difficult, of course, but it's nice to start with a small success.
Now, I will work on the project a little bit at a time as I juggle work and family. I hope to be done in a couple of months. Some people who devote all of their time to the project get done much quicker.
My advice after seeing the assignment, just pay your money now and get moving. Delaying for the past few months didn't help me.

If you do not pay and download there nothing to do. Just talking that might help OR useless. I am not sure. If you download it compells you to do assingnment, read books, look for more resources. Nobody likes to waste $250.00 unless you love to waste it. I passed SCJP2 last year did not do anything. It did not help me at all. Real thought begins when you have something to do. Hope it helps. Good Luck

There is no time limit. You can take 10 years to do the assignment if you like.
The only time limit is if SUN ever decides to stop the SCJD exam, I don't think that will happen any time soon.
