The instructions say that standard design patterns should be used?
Do I *have* to use design patterns? Or can I create a simple design without using any specific pattern?
Thanks.

You will have a hard time avoiding design patterns - people have used patterns for years before the GoF gave them a name. Being aware of them will help firm up your design, however, and probably give you some ideas you would not otherwise have had. It will also help name your classes, methods and variables so that another developer can more easily understand your code. Finally it makes your design documentation fully buzzword compliant
