I don't think I've ever posted on this forum, but I've definitely researched and researched and researched from it to work on my developer test... and I passed with 149/155! Here is the breakdown of my score:
General Considerations(maximum = 58): 55 Documentation(maximum = 20): 20
GUI(maximum = 24): 23
Server(maximum = 53): 51
Among the design choices I made based on others' success I've read about on this forum:
Modified Data class
No dynamic downloading
No client ID tracking in locking
Brute force searching mechanism
Simplest possible locking mechanism
Just a thought now... I'm a new grad with a CS degree with only 6 months J2EE experience... any thoughts on how much this ($400) certification will help me get a job? Should I go for Web Component Developer certification?
I'll be hanging around for a while, so feel free to reply!

Duh! I first forgot to congratulate you on your success and great score.
Well it is a plus, but won't get you a job. You will need to show how in the 6 months experience you have, you have learned a lot and can be an immediate impact at that company. Show sample code, Ask questions about what they are working on, ask about their design, see if there is something you can help them with right there to show your skills.
You might have to start in a lower position, but it will increase your experience and also give you a chance to prove to the company that you deserve a higher position and pay. And at that point if they don't pay you more you look for a different job. then you get married have kids, live happily ever after.
Oh, I'm sorry I am getting to far ahead. Enjoy life, don't worry too much, you will look back in years pass and say, Why was I so worried.

Didn't read any books... but browsed through the Sybex book (forgot the title, something like "Complete Guide to Java Certification"... covers Programmer and Developer tests) for about 45 minutes at Barnes and Nobles though.
Actually, the threads on this newsgroup and other similar newsgroups made up 90% of my resources! I also read various RMI and Swing tutorials on the javasoft website.
Total time (reading threads, design, learning RMI, testing) was about 3 weeks... but I think previous programming experience helped me finish this project relatively quickly (CS curriculum)
My advice is to keep things as simple as possible. All of my design choices (Data class, locking algorithm, RMI server) were simplest solutions I could think of.

Check out the Yahoo! groups site and search for Java Developer Certification groups. There are a couple... the best, I think, is java-dev-test.
