Object Oriented Design , Choice of Database ??

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Hi,
I recently completed became a SCJP and was trying to code a very small application for practice.
Suddenly, there were 101 questions popping in my head regarding
> how to organise the code in to classes ... or separate programs
> what kind of storage mechanism to use for my data...etc..
RHE Guide (the latter portion for Developers Exam) seemed to address the exact same issues .

Are there any other good, explanatory books which wud be ideal to answer my questions ?
I believe this would be in line with the kind of preparation for developer's exam . So looking for help in this forum.
Thanks in advance,
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,
I too found RHE very helpful. However, I think the best thing to do is spend the $250 and download the assignment! (I'm assuming you haven't started on the assignment yet). Why do a 'practice' application when you can work on the real thing
You will find a lot of help on this forum. If you passed your programmers, then you are probably ready for the developer's. The difference (in my opinion) is the Developer's stresses more design type decisions.
I am finding the Developer's easier and more enjoyable than the programmers....but then I like programming more than taking tests
Peace,
Dave.

Well, There are still areas which I need to learn before I cud face the Developer's exam (RMI,Swing etc..)
But before I get involved in learning smaller details(actual implementation details ) ... I wud really love to know how to visualise a physical problem into a software (Object Oriented) application making the right design choices for my application.
Is there a book to guide me in this direction ?

Jenifer, I would suggest you take the exam. It really makes a good developer out of you. As you start designing and developing you are faced with many alternatives. Your path and decision are important. Although I have been developing java for quite sometime, I find this exam invaluable, simply because it makes you think of things you didnt know before. I had earlier worked with RMI but was so-so with it. Now I have a pretty good mastery. Since the time is unlimited, its a great learning process. Further you have great folks like my dear pal Mark to help you . Right dude?
Also the folks in this forum are great, they jump at any chance to help. Anyway, good luck on whatever you decide.
