Record Locking and Client ID�s

My instructions.html file states:
"The unlock method simply removes the lock from the specified record. If an attempt is made to unlock a record that has not been locked by this connection, then no action is be taken. "
To me, that sounds as if we have to implement a way to track which records are locked by which clients. I wonder how can we obtain these client ID�s, since the signature of the lock and unlock methods only accept an int (the record number). Any thoughts on this?
