We have removed the regular searching provided by UBB. Instead we have a Google search below that will get the same results but faster. Each night we load Google with the daily posts.
Check it out, I think you guys will like it.

It can't do the search in any particular forum, -- only all of them. For example, if I want to search in "Developer Certification", there doesn't seem to be a way to do it.

...and there is no apparent way to narrow the query per a particular member number. #862 and #9174 always have good things to say.
The UBB search allowed the user to search for all posts related to "Connection factory" in which Peter or Mark had input. Can this be accomplished with Google-based search?
Perhaps UBB search could be offered in addition to Google. Those who need speed can opt for Google, where others who desire narrow queries could employ UBB.
Thoughts?

Yes you are right, but you could put a persons name into the google search and see posts by that person. But you do have to decipher what forum it's from.

I tried forming my search String with:
"Professional Certification Developer Certification"
prepended to it. So to find all posts from Mark about lock or unlock, I searched for:
"Professional Certification Developer Certification Mark Spritzler lock unlock"
and got 44 results.
All 44 appear to be from the Developer Certification forum. I didn't click on all 44, so I may not be absolutely correct, but its close.

I think narrawing the search in a particuler forum is a very extensively used feature, and the new gadget really exhausted me.
I am wondering if the 2 engines could be attached a counter for each and both put into service. So after a while which one is more popular and so more convinent would be known.

It's not about whether one way of searching is more popular. We have reason to believe the old UBB search was causing the the machine which hosts the Big Moose Saloon to crash several times a day. If we'd left it as it was we might not have a Big Moose Saloon at all.
Now which do you prefer ?
By the way, there is a lot of discussion of this in the "JavaRanch" forum, which is the proper place for this sort of thing.
