what is local mode?

ok i have read up the previous posts but i don't quite i understand certain term everyone is saying. eg. local mode or remote mode. would u all mind to explain this to me? and currently i'm starting on lock/unlock. i don t have a slightest idea how to implement it. Can anyone of u all brief me on this?

Your name still doesn't meet the javaranch standards, so I will give you a vague answser to your question. Remote mode is when you talk to the database via the network (rmi or sockets) and local mode is where you talk stright to the database. You should really have a good grasp of what your datatbase design is before you start worrying about lock/unlock. You should sit down and think or read some more posts before jumping right in and coding
