My friends of Javaranch,
Greetings :-)
I am doing my docummentation and features of on-line help, and also i am thinking to modify some code that I did previous.
I did the download of FBN project for the exam SCJD1.2.
I am developement my code using the VERSION 1.3.1 of JDK
I coded the criteria search using the Interpreter pattern .
I had write around 7 classes: Context, EndWildCard, Expression, Terminal, ParserRegularExt, etc for implementing a search enginee using wilcard-like feature.
Maybe, my code was a bit larger .
Therefore, I am thinking in rewrite that code for search criteria using the version 1.4.1 in order to i can use new features of Regular Expression and so, reduces that 7 classes for just one
a class ( Finder.java ).
Doing this i will try get the certification for the SCKD1.2 .
Asks:
1. Is that possible?
2. What other characteristics of JDK1.4.1 , could I use ?
Thanks advance, Francisco Carlos

Hi Francisco,
You can use logging, exception chaining, Scatterers and gatherers, better threading support(with interuptable IO), better javadoc support, rexex(which you already know about), ByteBuffers, new String methods, the new Threads.holdsLock(object) method, and new data structures, just to name a few.
All best,

Thanks, for your tips, Habbib.
BTW, I am thinking to buy your book, also, for help me, review my project.
But, maybe i use only exceptions chaining and
regular expression. I could read some posts
saying that some of that characteristics
are depedent of plataform.
My problem is that I am thinking, seriously, rewrite my code only into the part of search criteria, I think so that I will can write a better search criteria.
Is it possible that the suns assessor punish me because, maybe, I wont be using all the resources of JDK1.4.1.
Thanks advance , Franciso Carlos

I don't think they'll punish you, unless they're more strict then I recall . Just justify your reasons. Complexity is as good a reason as any.

More once, Thanks, Habibi.
Your advice are worth a lot for me.
This milestone of project is being very interesting, I am trying justify my choosen decions in order to convince the Sun s assessor.
Also, i am trying doing a doccumentation clear and complete.
Unhappy, I am being seduced for become my code better. And this manner, I am trying to use some functionality of JDK1.4.1.
I was afraid of to have just some characteristics of JDK1.4.1 , in a project developed initially using the version JDK1.3.x, because I dont want that my code look like to the "Frankstein"
Maybe, if I just resolve rewrite the my search enginee using regex... I think that this will be sufficent as long as I say to the assessor convince reasons for doing that.
The important of this all is the importance of the whole process of learning that is being much worth and indescribable.
Thanks in advance,
Francisco Carlos
