why does the server need stubs?

Hi,
I am having to include the stubs on both server side and client side. Can someone tell me why the server side needs it?
RMI documentation says after Java 2.0, skeletons are not needed on the server side. So, in stead of using a skeleton, server uses the same stub as the client?

RMI Registry loads the _Stub class, popultes with the serialized data from the RMI Server and sends the serialized object to the client. That is the reason to include _Stub for RMI Registry and the client.
