I've just completed my Sun Certification Programmer Exam and am contemplating on the next level of exams. In terms of understanding the architecture what is the best approach here ? To go for the Developer exams / to go for SCWCD / hit the architecture level exams right away ?
Thoughts ???

My first thought is that you are probably misunderstanding the nature of the exams. The three exams you mention (SCJD, SCWCD, SCEA) are completely different from each other and it is very, very, very unlikely that all three are of interest to you.
  • The SCWCD exam is a bit like the SCJP exam you've just done, but then for web containers.
  • The SCJD exam not like that at all. It is not about technology. It is about understanding a disciplined software design and development process.
  • The SCEA exam is again totally different. It is not a natural successor after the SCJD or SCWCD exams. It is for architects who probably never touch Java code -- it is very, very high level
  • See this thread for a lively discussion of the above.
