Hey guys, lately I've been seeing this screen alot:
Sorry, but the Ranch is quite busy right now. Please try again in a few minutes.
Maybe it's time to make a (web) farm out of the Ranch?

Yeah well financing such a farm would take more than chicken feed . How do you propose doing that?

I dunno, what type of hardware/software (db, wpp server) are we talking about? I assume just buying a few Linux boxes on eBay or Half.com won't do the trick?...

How often would you say that you see these messages? I haven't seen them in over a month.

Really it is concurrency problem (and not so much busy).
It happens when I made some lap, trying to correct it, by editing or adding a new one, but Cindy is already there.
It takes a while.
With me it happens all the time...say, a couple of dozen times per each my post.

I've been seeing this message more often lately as well. Perhaps twenty times in the last week. The problem always seems to correct itself almost immediately - I hit refresh and the page loads normally. I wonder this might be due to recent changes in our robots.txt file, allowing search engines to hit the site more?

It happened to me for the firsy time on Friday. I gave up after trying to post to the site about 10 times. Last night the site was down (at least I was getting a "not available" error).

That message was part of a program that our hosts put in in an attempt to fix the crashing problem we used to have. I just talked to them and they have fine tuned the program so that we should not get that message any more. If you still get that message, please let me know.

Been seeing it last week, once in a while, and refresh wouldn't fix the problem. Today seems OK so far.
Speaking of robots.txt. How do you tweak it to slow down bots? Google has been abusing my site for 5 days now, and with him and few other unexpected guests it might soon become a burden...
