------- from sun site---------
Products listed on this page have begun the Sun End of Life (EOL) process. The EOL transition period is from September 16, 2002 until March 16, 2003.
------- from sun site---------

Any reason you can't just use 1.4.1? I'm not sure if the page contains a mistake or not, but that's probably your option

I had assumed any of the 1.2*, 1.3*, and 1.4*. However, how long that will last seems to be in question. Interesting news, that.

java version "1.4.0_03"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.0_03-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.0_03-b04, mixed mode)

Max,
i am using the above version and the instruction say that you have to use only a production version of JDK. my concern is does the production version "is" the current production version. please help me , i badly need to use 1.4 as i am using regular expression (String.split()).
i already got an equivalent of it. but i don't want to get penalized for NOT using the standard api , which is available already in 1.4 .
pls guide!

First, you won't get penalized for not using regex(and by extention, the String.spit() method): I have this on good authority from Sun.
Second, if you're using a version on the jdk that is currently production level, then I'm pretty sure that Sun won't have phazed it out by the time you finish.
Third, please explain to me again why you can't just starting using 1.4.1? I only mention the last because it's more stable then the version you currently have.
All best,

i badly have to use regular expression as i am supporting single quotes inside a value. the StringTokenizer doesnt split tokens based on a String and only based on characters.

yes, i would love to use 1.4.1. i'm pretty confused about which is 1.4 version . yes 1.4.1 is greater than the version i am using. so i will use 1.4.1 for my assignment.
Thanks a lot Max for all the help. i can rest eay now
