Very simple one.
About smilies and other UBB code stuff. Does Infopop interpret these when I post a message, and stores them in HTML in the database, or it interprets them when message is displayed?
Another words, if you interpret on "insert", you have a luxury of faster display (and that what web apps want, right?). However, then trouble comes when you can't interpret code back exactly as user wrote it. It seems to be the case here, so is it right to assume this is how JR works?
Easy to assume that I have sort of my own forum...

UBB used to store all pages as static html pages (including images). Now it reinterprets the page each time.

"Under the hood"? A term used by automobile mechanics for getting into the insides of the machine. I believe Shura is referring to the inner workings of Javaranch (the ones that people usually don't see).
