Does anyone here interpret the instructions to say that there has to be a gui for controlling the server? I haven't built one...
What about shutting the server down? I've been using CTRL-C - is that an issue for the assessors?

Hi Mike,
You might want to have a GUI for the server if you want to be able to specify an alternate location for the database or an alternate port number for connectivity (either RMI or Sockets).
But if you don't want to give either option on the server then you may not need a GUI.
If you are doing Control-C to shutdown, then you might want to look at using Runtime.addShutdownHook() so that you can catch it and ensure the database is in a safe mode for the shutdown (that is: not in the middle of a write).
Regards, Andrew
