I'd like to trap the situation where a client crashes while holding a lock. I understand the unreferenced will do this but one needs an object that both the client and the server have a reference to. Then when the object is cleaned up on the client side the server finds out and can clean up itself. What object are people using for this. The lock method's argument and type are both long so that won't do.
